Painting Techniques

Painting on board has several advantages over canvas:

(a) it can be cut easily to fit a frame of any size and shape

(b) great frames can sometimes be obtained at auctions and in charity shops for very little money

(c) board can be primed and prepared with a variety of grounds (such as plaster)

(d) it provides a very firm surface to paint on

(e) glazes and varnishes can applied indefinitely to maintain that freshly painted look

(Only drawback is that it is a lot heavier than canvas to hang or ship)
